In the time that I've been playing hockey at school level, I've seen quite a few injuries. But thank goodness none of them were serious. I decided that I would rather be safe than sorry. So I've found ways in which you can protect your self and still enjoy the game.
The usual and quite common thing used are gum guards. They work quite well and prevent your teeth from being knocked out. You don't even have to go for the more expensive ones, the cheaper ones will do the trick. There are even flavoured gum guards on sale . They come in hany for long games or at tournaments.
For your legs, mainly your shins, you must use shin pads or guards. They are by far the most important thing to have, besides having a hockey stick. I've heard all kinds of stories about people who forgrt to use them. I'm not sure if they are all ture but I'm not going to take any chances.
I never thought you could use these for firld hockey and I've never seen any one with them. I would only wear one of these if it's really necessary.
If you do a lot of tackling, you should consider getting your self a glove. It can become a bit wet from sweat but it's totally worth it. I would rather have a sweaty hand than bruised knuckles or a bruised hand.
So that's how you play it safe and still enjoy the game, rather than ending up like these people...

Trying something new
Something that I've definitely wanted to try for a while is underwater hockey. It's also known as Octopushor even Water Hockey. For a sport that started in the United kingdom in 1954, it has made it's way all around the world. It looks like quite an hectic sport, and i guess that you'll have to be a good swimmer to participate.
You can have up to ten players, including the six in play. There are two teams playing against each other, it's a non contact sport. The aim of the game is for one of the two teams to successfully move the puck around the pool, then to shoot it into the goals.
The equipment:
Typical swimwear is swimming briefs for guys player(baggy shorts would make it a bit difficult to move) and a one piece swim suit for the girls. The other equipment you use are a diving mask, fins, a stick, a puck, a water polo cap, a snorkel and a glove.
